Akio

Known as Africa’s most Shazam-ed DJ, Akio is an internationally recognised hip hop DJ and one of South Africa’s most influential contributors to the genre. Akio is known for this diverse track selection blending hip hop, R&B, afrobeat, kwaito, jazz, funk, and future beats. Having held resident status at clubs in Japan, the Netherlands and South Africa, Akio always finds a way to connect with the crowd.
Akio has been nominated 3 times for "DJ of the Year" (2012, 2018, 2019) at the South African Hip Hop Awards and has been listed in The Plug Magazine’s Top 100 “Most Influential People In Urban Culture” in 2017 and 2018.
Akio has performed at some of the world’s most iconic events, including Everyday People (NYC, LA, Paris), Low End Theory (LA), SXSW (Austin), Rocking the Daisies (Cape Town) and Oppikoppi (Johannesburg) in addition to opening up for top artists like Swizz Beats, J Cole, and TLC.
